All Matt, All The Time

Welcome to Matt McAnaw's blog. This blog has been created by friends and family  too keep other friends and family updated about Matt.   In case you didn't know....

Most of you know that Matt hasn't been feeling well and ultimately, spent some time up KU Medical Hospital. Some of the symptoms that Matt was displaying could have been easily misconstrued as something as simple as a chest cold. Feelings such as chest pain, breathing problems, cough, and fever can be attributed to many things. The pain that he was feeling was only getting worse instead of better. He took a trip to the hospital and was given a chest x-ray. The doctors determined that he was suffering from Pneumonia and treated him as though this were the case and ultimately sent him home.

Even with the diagnosis of Pneumonia, the pain continued and Matt returned to the hospital. He was admitted into the ICU and was given more tests.

Ultimately, after a closer look and a pretty invasive surgical procedure, it was determined that he had a type of lung cancer.

Starting Tuesday, Matt will begin an aggressive series of chemotherapy sessions and hopefully determine the severity of the cancer. Once Matt's chemotherapy session starts, depending on how his body reacts to the drugs, he will need a lot of rest and recovery time. To help facilitate his health needs, this blog site will be updated regularly to keep friends and family informed.

Please feel free to send Matt well wishes through this blog. As you will notice, we have included a button for donations. There have been many inquiries as to how people can help or contribute.

An account has been set up for Matt's daughter Bella. Your continued donations are appreciated greatly and so very important. All of the money donated through this website will be securely deposited into her account. I know we can all continue the celebration of Matt's life through his family and the little girl that Matt loves so very much.

Much love and thanks for your all of your support. As it has been written time and time again, Matt has truly the greatest, most caring and devoted group of  friends and family.

  • matt:

So, a while back i left an update regarding my case of pneumonia. As it turns out, i also developed a Staff infection. That’s part of the reason why I’ve been here so long. They were giving me hardcore antibiotics and it still wasn’t doing the trick.

Yesterday I had a procedure done, and now I’ve got 3 tubes sticking out of my chest. One in the front and two in the back. The tubes are draining the infectious fluid from my chest, so I’m still stuck in the hospital. I’m not sure how much longer I’ll be here, I’m still in quite a lot of pain and there is still a lot of fluid coming out of me.

Well that should update everyone. After we clear out my chest, we can get back to taking care of the cancer. So that’s what I’m gonna do.

    Thanks for your thoughts.

So, starting tonight i am being admitted into KU MED again. it totally sucks, but i have pneumonia, and i have to get that taken care of. i’ve been having headaches accompanied with some dizziness. but it’s mainly this incredibly violent coughing fits.

So i will not be attending the BBQ this weekend. there was some speculation as to wether or not i would feel good enough for it anyway, but now i just dont have a choice. so, i hope everyone has a good time, and i will hopefully have some good news next week.

Again, thank you for the donations. i cant believe how truly generous you guys are. you are quite inspiring, if only we could all show such grace.

sorry if there are some grammatical errors in this post, i blame the chemo for making me kinda stupid at times.

  • I went to see matt early this morning. He’s doing a bit better today with the pain-the port they put into the chest to administer the chemo thru was very painful yesterday. His colour is great and his 1/4″ buzz on the head is darling. He was ready to go back to sleep at 9am- those are powerful pain meds!! He is being hydrated thru the day via IV and the chemo is actually started in the evening so this evening(Thursday) will be DAY 3. No rough side effects yet, just a bit of nausea. Keep eating Matt. We need to make up the weight lost by cutting your hair!!!!Love you Matt
